Murder on Monday: Graceful all-megastar production of Agatha Christie's whodunit set in the 1930s, with unrecognizable Finney as the master-sleuth Hercule Poirot, and all his suspects on the same railroad train. Vibrant amusement, although severely slow paced. Bergman won Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Cast includes Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, and Wendy Hiller. (128 minutes, 1974)

King of Jazz: Million dollar musical revue, shot in 2-color Technicolor format, is filled with bigger-than-life production numbers and remarkable melodies. Powerful cast perks up a contrived thriller, filmed in Greece. Cast includes Joseph Bottoms, Kirstie Alley, James Daughton, Lana Clarkson, and Keir Dullea. (100 minutes, 1984)

On Guard: A loyal swordsman saves a child princess from the evil grasp of her malevolent opponent. The toddler's dad was also the swordsman's mentor. A deliciously old-styled popcorn film that is full of action and set in the France of Louis XIV. Cast includes Daniel Auteuil, Fabrice Luchini, Vincent Perez, Marie Gillain, Yann Collette, Didier Pang, and Philippe Noiret. (128 minutes, 1997)
