28 May 10 Finding The Right Bands For Hire

If you're planning a party, wedding, corporate event, or maybe an anniversary party, looking for bands for hire can be a great solution to your entertainment needs. A good band can make a party amazing, or it can damage your reputation, so for whatever style of even you're planning, taking the time to choose the right band can make a huge difference.

Lots of people question whether it might be a better choice to go with a DJ. A DJ can bring a ton of music, takes up little space, is able to play most requests, and can cost a bit less. Having 10,000 songs at the ready is worthless if they're not the right songs at the right moment, and bands usually know what works and when it works to get the mood going right. Live music has much more energy and can really make things more exciting if you've got a lot of guests.

Once you've decided that it's a band you want, the first step is to decide on a budget. A lot of party planners make the mistake of hiring the entertainment as the last step. By then, the budget has been eaten up by the venue, caterers, videographer, wedding cake, and more. It's not uncommon for a bride to be to figure on spending only five to ten percent of the budget on the entertainment. Ask yourself, when all is said and done, is the band only five percent important to the success of your party? Of course not! Trying to hire a quality band for less than $500 or so will not turn out well.

To find the band you want, think back to friend's events, what kind of a scene did you enjoy? Try to lock down the kind of atmosphere you're going for. Ask friends for recommendations, ask the event planner at your venue for any contacts, and use bridal websites in your search.

At this point you'll have a short list of groups to work with. It's unwise to hire a band for such an important day without making sure they're the right choice. Have you seen them perform? At the very least, ask for a video, but see if there's any public performances you can drop by and have a listen. Make sure you meet them, and meet whoever will be the MC. If you don't have a good feeling at your meeting, it's likely you wont have a good feeling the day of your party.

Next, insist on a contract. Any decent band will have one to protect themselves, but if not, write one up. This party is very important to you and your guests. A contract will stipulate what happens in the event of catastrophe and they don't make it, or the terms of payment and deposit, what happens if you wish to cancel, etc. All of this is very important to know up front.

The band you choose should hold an insurance policy for liability. Entertainers are able to get very comprehensive coverage at a great price from brokers specializing in mobile entertainers. Make sure they have the coverage in case anything happens to the venue, any of your guests, or even band members as a result of you hiring them.

Following all these guidelines, you're on your way to finding the greatest hits from your list of bands for hire!
