Everywhere you look on the internet these days someone wants to give you something in exchange, it would appear, for nothing. However, whilst entering competitions is a great deal of fun and, can certainly be lucrative for some, there are a few things to be aware of.
Though there are a number of scams out there, just applying a little common sense and being careful with your details should protect you in most instances. If in doubt, stick to competitions run by companies you've heard of.
It is also important to understand that entering competitions will mean you having to give up something. A lot of competitions are run purely as a marketing and promotion exercise of course, or to simply create a database for newsletters and the like.
Quite often however, they are created purely as a money making exercise. Naturally, an entry fee will be incurred, and it is by making more from the fees than the prize or prizes cost that they are able to make a profit. Just because this is the case, should not detract you from entering competitions.
Whichever is the main reason, it is likely you will be added to a database somewhere in any case. As such, it could well be worth having a dedicated email address and even a dedicated cell phone number to jot down on your entries.
Above all else, you should ensure you are happy with all the terms and conditions. Failure to read these are the cause of many problems so, though it takes time, it is always worth it.
Indeed, if you intend to enter lots of competitions, you will soon understand which areas can simply be glanced over, and those areas that need more attention to. It will almost become second nature for you.
Many people complain they are never sure the worth of entering competitions, as they are not convinced anyone wins them. But people do win, as you will hopefully find for yourself. And if you really want to be sure, you can always ask the organizers for winners' details.
