This is a great up close and impromptu magic trick that is quick and easy to learn, yet will always amaze your friends. You can do this trick by itself, or as an introduction to some other tricks. It's a good idea do this with a couple other simple card tricks, as you need a cheap deck of cards as the main prop. You wouldn't want anybody accusing you of being a one-trick wonder, would you?
And here is how the trick will seem to you associates. You're sitting around a table at a party or a watering hole, talking about anything. You bring up in an "oh by the way," fashion that you've recently picked up some telekinetic skills. They will of course cease whatever they've been talking about, and demand a demonstration. Naturally, since you've just learned these powerful skills, you can only move little things. Of course, you tell them that you haven't learned to raise up pool tables or anything like that.
You produce a deck of cards, take one out at random, and set it on the back of your hand. You conjure up the enchanting powers of Zeus, or your beloved god whenever you use your telekinetic powers, and the card magically starts to flex according to your potent cerebral will. After the card has bent according to your immense clairvoyant energy, you claim that you have only researched enough to bend one card, and you need a rest. Then you quickly steer the conversation back to whatever you were talking about before.
Here's the strategy. Before you announce your unique capabilities, rub some water on the back of the hand that you are going to put the card on. You'll require an inexpensive, non-laminated deck of cards. The low cost cards will be permeable, and will naturally soak up that water that you have deftly rubbed on your hand. When it does this, it will naturally fold toward the curvature of your hand, astonishing your buddies in the process.
This is one of those tricks that require you talk a good game both before and following the illusion. If you merely say, "Hey guys, look at this," they'll most likely guess the trick. But if you build it up, and tell an exciting story beforehand, (get it, before hand?) and swiftly cover it up with one more story after the fact, it will go over much smoother.
Naturally, if you understand any other basic card tricks (that don't require the whole deck, given that you've just destroyed one of the cards) this would be a fantastic time to pull them out. There are several easy tricks that do not demand you to be playing with the entire deck. This is a fantastic intro to some amazing tricks that you can captivate your friends with, or if you get lucky, start to attract a group of excited viewers. Have fun.
