Everyone has owned at least one watch in their life. Although the handy readout on the front of a cell phone has relegated watches to the back of some people's underwear drawers, they will have certainly worn a Timex or a family heirloom on their wrist at some point. And lest we who are old enough forget the Swatch that we wore back in the 80's or the cheap piece of plastic that never kept correct time that we pulled from the bottom of a kid's fastfood meal.

Whatever your experience with watches has been, one thing is certain - watches will never go out of fashion. Arguably, people don't even need a watch these days, as they can easily find out the time from their cell phone, but cell phones have been around a while now and yet watches are as popular as ever.

The fact is that watches are stylish and make a statement about you. It is widely believed that the first item of clothing a woman looks at when she meets a man are his shoes, but you can be sure that the watch you're wearing (or not) will be pretty high up on the evaluation list to. People, and this applies to men as well as women, can tell a lot about a man by the watch he wears.

Blame society if you will, but it is a fact of life that women have a larger number of accessories from which to choose. Because men don't have the number of rings, necklaces, bracelets, or earrings with which to gussy themselves up, they turn to the wide variety of watches at their disposal. Some men don't even bother with any other accessory besides a watch, allowing these timepieces to maintain a high level of popularity. Because it is the only accessory that may be found attached to a man, it stands out all the more. The importance of choosing a good watch can therefore not be overstated.

Sometimes it is important to a man to put forth an image of success. Again, you may kick the societal dog if you must, but it is important to some. Rolex watches and Tag Heuer watches are ones that many men turn to in order to show that they are living the high life. What the Corvette, Mercedes, or BMW does for a man on the road, these watches do for a man on his wrist. These brands may not win you an originality contest, but they certainly get their point across.

Buying quality may not be cheap, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Top of the line watch brands are fairly priced in that they last a lifetime and maintain their looks. Look online. It is not rare to find original models there that are discounted 30% or more from the street prices.
